Shopify alternative in Algeria: COD, carriers and Arabic
Why global e-commerce website builders hit a wall in Algeria — cash on delivery, local carriers, Arabic and RTL, the dinar — and how Woven approaches it. An approach-level comparison, with no invented feature table.
Global e-commerce website builders are designed for markets where people pay by card before shipping. In Algeria most sales are cash on delivery, in dinars, with local carriers and Arabic-speaking customers. Woven starts from those constraints: a ready store, COD by default, integrated carriers and right-to-left Arabic.
How we compare — and what we will not do
You will not find a Shopify feature table here, nor one for any other vendor. Their offers, prices and app ecosystems change without notice, we cannot verify them continuously, and publishing a stale comparison would be dishonest. What we compare is an approach: a general-purpose global tool you adapt to the Algerian market, versus a tool built around that market from day one. For another product's exact features, see its official site. Everything stated about Woven, by contrast, is verifiable inside the product.
The Algeria wall: four things you cannot just configure
Cash on delivery is not one payment option among others: it is a whole operating model. You track a parcel whose money does not exist yet, handle refusals at the door, and need to know exactly how much the carrier must collect on your behalf. A tool designed for card prepayment treats an order as paid; here, it is not paid yet.
Then the carriers. Yalidine, ZR Express, Maystro and Noest are not in a global tool's standard integration list; you need an app, a middleman or development work. On Woven they are in the product: you create the parcel and follow the delivery from the order itself.
Arabic, finally, is not a translation. It is a mirrored, right-to-left layout on every page — buyer side and seller side. Translating the labels of a theme designed for French or English almost always leaves broken screens. Woven is bidirectional down to its reading direction.
And the dinar: your prices, your delivery fee and your subscription are in DZD, with no conversion or exchange fees to explain to your accountant.
Two approaches, criterion by criterion
Right-hand column: a general characterisation of a global e-commerce website builder, whichever vendor — not a claim about a specific product. Woven column: what the platform does today.
| Criterion | Woven (built for Algeria) | Global website builder (general approach) |
|---|---|---|
| Cash on delivery | The default mode, with order statuses and the amount to collect computed server-side (items + delivery fee). | The assumed scenario is card prepayment; COD is bolted on through configuration or an app. |
| Algerian carriers | Yalidine, ZR Express, Maystro and Noest integrated: parcel creation and tracking from the order. | Depends on third-party apps or custom development, to be maintained over time. |
| Arabic and reading direction | Buyer AND seller interface in right-to-left Arabic, French and English, in the product. | Translation is possible; right-to-left rendering quality depends on the theme and the apps. |
| Currency | Algerian dinar for prices, delivery and the subscription. | General multi-currency support; the subscription is often billed in a foreign currency. |
| Getting started | Account, store name, products — a shareable link in minutes, with no code. | Pick a theme, a domain and apps; many merchants end up hiring an agency. |
| Domain name | Your store lives at wovendz.com/your-store. A custom domain is not offered. | You buy and control your own domain name — a genuine advantage of that approach. |
| Cost structure | A monthly subscription in DZD, paid per term, with no auto-renewal and no commission. | Subscription, plus apps, plus domain, sometimes plus an agency — add them up before comparing. |
| Customisation | A block-based page builder (cover, product grid, gallery, contact, socials, video…), with no code. | Themes editable down to the code: more freedom, more work and more maintenance. |
| Advertising and measurement | Meta Pixel and Conversions API per store, plus views, add-to-cart and sales per product. | A very large marketing app ecosystem, to be selected and paid for separately. |
Which approach for which merchant
This is not a question of tool quality, but of fit with the market you serve.
IfYou sell in Algeria, cash on delivery, to Arabic-speaking customers.
ThenA local tool saves you weeks: nothing to integrate, nothing to translate, nothing to work around.
IfYou export, you collect by card and you insist on your own domain name.
ThenA global website builder remains the better choice. Woven is not built for that scenario.
IfYou have a developer and custom order rules.
ThenA custom site or an extensible platform fits better: Woven does not open up to code.
IfYou want to validate a product line before investing in a site.

Straight talk
When Woven is not the right choice for you
If one of these describes you, a global website builder or custom development will serve you better — and we would rather say so.
- You want your own domain name. Woven stores live at wovendz.com/your-store; a custom domain does not exist today.
- You sell internationally or in several currencies. Woven is designed for Algeria and the dinar.
- You sell digital products, subscriptions or services. Woven is built around a physical parcel delivered by a carrier.
- You need to edit your storefront's code or your checkout flow. Woven offers a block builder, not theme access.
- You want per-wilaya delivery pricing. Woven currently applies a single delivery fee per store.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Shopify alternative suited to Algeria?
Woven is an e-commerce platform designed specifically for Algeria: cash on delivery by default, Yalidine, ZR Express, Maystro and Noest integrated, buyer and seller interfaces in right-to-left Arabic, French and English, and prices in dinars. Global website builders are excellent general-purpose tools; they are simply not built around cash-on-delivery logistics in Algeria.
Why do you not publish a Shopify feature comparison table?
Because we cannot continuously verify what another vendor offers, at what price, in which country. One wrong cell in a table stays online for months and misleads the reader. So we compare approaches, state only what is evergreen, and point to the official source for the rest.
Does Woven handle Arabic and right-to-left layout?
Yes, fully, and on both sides: the store your customer sees and the dashboard you use both exist in right-to-left Arabic, French and English. Switching language is immediate and the layout genuinely mirrors — it is not just translated labels.
How much does a Woven online store cost?
Woven works on a monthly subscription in dinars, with a 7-day free trial without a bank card, no commission on your sales and no auto-renewal: every term is paid deliberately. Current plans and prices are shown on the Sell on Woven page, because they can change.
Can I use my own domain name with Woven?
No. Your store is reachable at wovendz.com/your-store, a link you choose that identifies you. If owning your own domain name is essential to your brand, that is a legitimate reason to build or host your site elsewhere — we would rather say so plainly.
